Windowsmith Privacy Policy

Windowsmith · Last updated: July 2, 2026

Short version: Windowsmith does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data. Everything happens locally in your browser.

What we collect

Nothing. Windowsmith does not collect or transmit any personal information, browsing history, or usage analytics. The developer has no servers and receives no data from your use of the extension. Windowsmith makes no network calls.

What is stored on your device

Your saved layouts (window positions, sizes, and each window's tabs), your settings, and automatic safety backups are stored only on your own computer using Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This information never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time from the extension's Data pane or by removing the extension.

Permissions and why they are needed

  • Tabs: to read each open window's tabs (URL, order, pinned state, active tab) when you save a layout, and to reopen those tabs in the correct order when you restore one.
  • Storage: to save your layouts, settings, and automatic safety backups locally, as described above.
  • Display: to read the available monitors' work area so a restored window's position is placed on a visible screen, even on a different monitor setup than when it was saved.
  • Favicon: to show each tab's favicon in the expanded layout detail, using Chrome's local favicon cache. This does not make a network request.

None of these permissions are used to read, collect, or send your data. Windowsmith requests no access to the content of any website.

Third parties

Windowsmith does not share data with any third party, because it does not collect any. The optional "Donate" link opens an external page (Ko-fi) only if you click it; any payment there is handled by that service under its own privacy policy.

Children

Windowsmith is a general-purpose productivity tool and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
